Black Jack History

BlackJack was invented in French casinos around 1700 where it was called vingt-et-un and has been played in the U.S. since the 1800's. BlackJack is named as such because if a player got a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades as the first two cards, the player was in paid in addition.

The game was named 'Blackjack' because if a player held a Jack of Spades and an Ace of Spades as the first two cards, the player was remunerated out extra. So with Spades being black and Jack being a vital card - Blackjack was born!

Blackjack, that is known also as 21, is usually played with one to eight decks of cards. Cards of rank 2 through 10 are calculated according to their face value. All face cards are 10 points. Aces are worth either 1 or 11 points - depending on what benefits the player.

The goal of the game is two-fold:

1. Get your final hand total closer to 21 than the dealer, and ...
   
   
2. Do this without going over 21. Thus, the player wins if his hand has more points than the dealer, without going over 21. If either the player or dealer goes over 21, it is called a "break" or "bust" and automatically loses. If both the player and dealer bust the player loses. This is where the house advantage lies - the player must play first

If the player and dealer tie the bet is a push.
